With Ubuntu Linux 7.04 I cannot for the life of me get my Toshiba Satellite 1955-S801 laptop's video card to install correctly.  Ubuntu apparently has issues with the GeForce 440 Go (32MB), and I don't understand enough about the nuances of Linux to follow along with some of the terminal commands some of the web sites I've found are suggesting.  Because my screen res was maxed out at 1024x768 with the generic video driver, I did go into xorg.conf and edit it to display 1280x1024 (the laptop's native res).

Any suggestions on a 3rd party video driver?

yeah...seems to be a problem with that card in particular.  That laptop is pretty old now, so it's not unexpected, but it'd be nice to get the full linux experience.

This looks like the best solution, but I borked it up apparently and got a blank screen on boot afterward.

For the record, I never did get a "true" video driver for my laptop, but I did manage to edit xorg.conf to allow 1280x1024 resolution.
