I guess my acclimation to southeast TN is nearly complete
![]() It is a six string however, so it's not a true banjo to the purists. Strung, tuned and played like a guitar. Looks like this: ![]() And sounds like this... Taken with my digital camera, "so-so" audio and lousy video. Rich, I intentionally made the video look worse with the Windows Movie Maker program ![]() |

I don't know Wall.E ...it looks like you are developing a fetish with the 'vintage video' post-process. Have you had any recent yearning to buy janglebobs or petticoats??
BTW, why would a manufacturer add an additional string to otherwise what would be a banjo?

No, I am too much of a jeans and t-shirt guy - but we do love our hats (one of my sons just got a nice derby that I like). I have been thinking about a pair of overalls... ![]() I need to get a video camera one of these days.... The idea with the 6 string banjo is that a guitarist can pick one up and play without learning any different chord shapes (but still have a "banjo sound"). It is well suited to the way that I play "fingerstyle". I have not been able to make it sound very good with a flatpick. In some ways it is more versatile than a 5 string banjo (for playing outside of the blugrass form) because it doesn't have the ever present high fifth string drone. 4 and 5 string banjo varieties are more common but the "banjitar" or "gitjo" has been a round for a long time. I think there has been a resurgence in their popularity in the last few years. There is another variety of six string banjo that retains the high drone but adds an extra string (same concept as a 7 string guitar or 5 string bass). I have even seen a "cello banjo" - I believe they are larger with a lower tuning. |
